Treatment: wash, treatment, straighten Arrived at 9:55 for a 10 am appointment and the salon was still closed. The owner, Charlotte arrived 10:10 am with other staff members arriving considerably later. After being shown to my chair the man proceeded to feel my hair, with rubber gloves on and explained my hair was dry and recommended a 'treatment'. I asked if this was a moisture or protein treatment and he replied: "It's really good". Not very helpful information on hair care maintenance. My hair was detangled with Charlotte's own brand paddle brush and "own brand conditioner" mixed with water. The man informed me this is the best brush to use/buy. Told me I should not finger detangle or to use a wide tooth comb for detangling, Charlotte's brush is best. 5 minutes later still trying to upsell the brush. The treatment consists of Charlotte's 'special' conditioner which is the same as the regular and a quick steam. Very stingy with the amount of conditioner used especially for thick afro hair. The only product used in my hair was Charlotte's own brand "Manketti oil" (mongongo oil) with manketti oil listed as one of the last ingredients on the bottle. No leave in conditioner, no heat protectant or other moisturising product was used in my hair. A junior stylist proceeded to blow dry my hair with a pick followed by straightening. My hair was not straight and still had thick roots. I was told by owner Charlotte that I should have mentioned to the stylist to use a round brush when blow-drying! I shouldn't have to tell a stylist how to style hair. Charlotte said she would correct this. My hair was then blowdried and straighten for the second time. This is excessive heat being used in one sitting. The hair still looked frizzy, not slick at all and definitely not worth £80 a rip off indeed. I could have achieved this myself at home. I do not recommend this salon, don't be fooled by the 'awards' won. This is below par for a 'higher end' salon.

I was definitely underwhelmed with my visit to this salon. I was expecting a lot more after all the interviews I read about Charlotte and her products. This salon is just an upmarket version of your local salon, where they talk about other people and do your hair in between others albeit with a cup of tea. I was in the salon for about 3.5 hours, I was expecting to be seen straight away however my hair was being dealt with in between other clients. When I called up to book I asked specifically for Charlotte to do my hair, however on the day a junior stylist did my hair and Charlotte just trimmed it and I was charged £120 for the privilege. Charlotte was very insistent that I have a treatment which I didn't book in for,and she didn't check my hair to see whether I actually needed it or not. A junior stylist took care of my wash, blow dry and straighten. I liked that she wet my hair before combing it before washing. The wash was very thorough, she gave a good scalp message and the products smelled lovely. She blow dried with a pick and not the round brush. (shock horror!) No heat protectant was applied to my hair unless the manketti oil is one and neither was any finishing spray applied at the end. During the day Charlotte talked a lot about trying to build her brand, I'm not sure if this is they best way to build it.

I have been researching salons that specialises in natural hair for a while. Also my hair was in dire need of a trim. So I decided to travel to the hair lounge as I had read really good reviews. You need to book appointment as it gets busy. The staff and Charlotte are really friendly and it is a great environment. Overall I was happy with the service except my hair was not styled quite how I liked as it was taking a while to dry. The stylist did really well to rescue it so that I looked decent walking out the door. This is somewhere I would go to treat my hair every once in a while as it not cheap but it is worth every penny.I think Charlotte is debuting her own product line in the next few days which I would be interested in using. I would definite recommend this salon and working on saving up the money for my next visit.
